The
Middle East Technical University hosted
Prof. Paul Gertler (University of
California at Berkeley) who's seminar
was entitled "Impact Evaluation to
Inform Social and Human Development
Policy Design". Prof. Gertler emphasized
the importance of impact evaluation
for improving and sustaining policies.
He gave a number of examples how rigorous
impact evaluation has influenced policy
making in signficant ways in several
countries, drawing on examples of
Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Program
in Mexico, Early Child Development
and School Decentralization in Argentina.
Such evaluations contributed to the
improvement and sustainability of
pro-poor policies.

Biography of Prof. Paul Gertler
Prof. Paul Gertler is a Professor
in Economics at University of California
at Berkeley. He has been also working
as a Faculty Director of the Graduate
Program in Health Services Management
at the same university. Prof. Gertler
has specialized in impact evaluation
of income support programs on poor
families.
